Heart of a Scholar SEL Storybooks
The Heart of a Scholar Collection is a social-emotional learning storybook series created for children ages birth to 8 and their Learning Partners, including parents, caregivers, and educators.
Inspired by the SAMFIT framework (Social Awareness, Academic Confidence, Mindfulness, Feelings, Identity, and Teamwork), each story helps young children navigate real-world emotions and situations while building essential early literacy and social skills.
Written by educator and literacy interventionist Dr. Kayon DePina, the series is part of The Scholar Experience, a two-generational approach learning model that supports both the child and the adult guiding them.
Each book in the collection features a relatable story, gentle watercolor illustrations, reflection questions, affirmations, and prompts designed to spark meaningful conversations. These stories are culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, and rooted in the belief that social-emotional learning grows best when families grow together.
Whether you are reading aloud at home, in the classroom, or in a mobile learning space, The Heart of a Scholar Collection invites you to slow down, connect, and nurture the heart behind every young scholar’s learning journey.
